Hello, my name is Alex Castro. I am married to Susane, we have three children (Lucas, Pedro and Daniel, ages from 20 to 32). We were all born in Brazil and we moved to the States in 2005. Lucas is married with Paula, who blessed us with our first grandchild (Santiago)! And Pedro has just married to Andrea, in 2023.
I was baptized as an infant in the Presbyterian church, but I was not an active Christian until Susane, who is a cradle Catholic, signed us up to participate in the Living in Love retreat for couples. At the retreat, I witnessed the fullness of marriage love on our retreat masters and came to realize all that we were missing in our marriage because I didn’t have a relationship with God – so, I signed up for RCIA!
I fell in love with the beauty and richness of the Holy Mass, Church History, the life of the Saints and devotion to Our Lady.
On the journey, we met the Little Sisters and the Little Brothers of the Lamb with whom we are lay members.
I trust our Lord that our faith community here at JPII is becoming who God wants us to be. In His merciful love, we are deepening our love for Jesus, serving the needs of our neighbors and building a new parish. I invite our parishioners to faithfully listen to Jesus daily in Sacred Scripture, and to encounter Him often in the Sacraments!
As a deacon at our parish, my ministry will be exercised alongside my wife Susane, and we will develop a program to enrich the spiritual lives of our parishioners by serving the poor, the hungry, and those most afflicted among us. And as we together serve the suffering, we will strengthen our parish community. Be on the outlook for more information, soon!
May we all become good servants in God’s merciful love for the Church. Blessed Mother Mary, pray for us at SJPII!
